From ironman.com: Hello Alessandro, |
WOW!! Incredible – how does it feel knowing that your journey to IRONMAN is coming to a close – with a few days to go you must be getting so excited!! My keenest memory of my first time IRONMAN experience (IRONMAN Florida) was the last 5 miles of the run course - how it was dark and surreally quiet. The only sound I remember for those last 5 miles was the sound of my shoes hitting the pavement, and then as I got closer to the finish line I could see the lights, hear the music, and Mike Reilly bringing the athletes home! I can’t wait for you to have that experience – it will be one of the most memorable moments of your life. My one piece of advice… RUN SLOWLY down the finish chute, take in every sound, face, and cheer sign – high five little kids, thank those spectators who are bringing you in! You are giving them an amazing gift BTW – you are allowing them to share your IRONMAN finish with you….. pretty darn special! Don’t forget to look for your Become One bracelet in race packet you get at athlete registration. You are not obligated to wear the bracelet but if you do you will let volunteers, spectators, fellow athletes and staff know that this is your first experience at the IRONMAN distance – expect just a little bit more love on race day! Second, the bracelet has “I WILL BECOME ONE” printed on it. Use this as your inspiration if things start to get tough out there on race day! |
